Warrenton\Wright City Students Excel at Martial Arts Tournament

Eight students from Excel Martial Arts, in Warrenton, MO, put nerves to the test while demonstrating their martial arts technique and skills at the Show Me State Showdown Taekwondo Tournament held in Columbia, MO, on April 4, 2015.

The competition, held at the Columbia Holiday Inn Executive Center, drew approximately 700 martial artist competitors and was attended by more than 2000 people including spectators. Cumulatively, the students from Excel Martial Arts brought home eight 1st place medals, seven 2nd place medals, one 3rd place medal, and two Tiger Awards. In fact, the students medaled in every event entered except one.

This is the fourth tournament the school has participated in since opening its doors last September. “It's a real testament to the caliber of students we have in the Warrenton area, that a small club in rural Missouri, can consistently walk in to these large tournaments and come away with the top awards in each division,” says Instructor Mr. Mark Van Horn.

Instructor Mrs. Van Horn added, “I am just so proud of all of our students. A couple of our students were competing for the very first time, and it takes an incredible amount of courage to stand on the mat alone to be judged, or face someone you have never met before sparring. Each time these students face a challenge like this and meet success, you can literally see their confidence swell.”

Excel Martial Arts is located at the Warrenton Outlet Mall and teaches sparring, self defense, and traditional Taekwondo. To find out more about the school, visit their website at http://www.excel-martial-arts.com/, facebook page at www.facebook.com/excel.n.life or call 314-833-9235.
